Action Mechanical

We have worked with Gustafson Builders for eighteen years on various projects both design-build projects and plan & specification projects. The project sizes are from small remodeling projects to multi-million dollar construction projects. The construction managers are always extremely organized and are consistent in completing construction projects on time. The professional organizational skills portrayed in project development and operational phases are strong attributes of the company. The construction superintendents, foreman, and workers all have a high level of knowledge of the building trade and convey this to a quality product. It is a privilege to work with Gustafson Builders on this project or any other projects in the future.

Arby’s Restaurants

Gustafson Heavy Constructors have built three Arby's and remodeled one in Rapid City market, for our company, Bentley-Miller.

The "Project Managers" are very knowledgeable of trades, city, county, and state regulations. Their relationships with these entities are of one of high regard and mutual respect.

The Project Managers seek bids from trades who meet specific criteria:

  1. Quality Workmanship
  2. Value for Dollars Spent
  3. High Integrity
  4. Trained/Quality Staff
  5. Manpower to meet schedule committed to in planning sessions
  6. Adaptability to unforeseen changes
  7. Cost conscience and bring the latest technology to the project
  8. Work well with other trades
  9. Willing to go the extra step if needed

Gustafson's bid the project to qualified trades. These bids are then reviewed with the owner. The pros and cons, of each bid, are reviewed in detail and a request for rebid if deemed necessary.

The work ethic and quality of work performed by Gustafson's excavation, concrete, carpenters, and finish carpenters, has always been of high quality, with great concern and care taken to ensure a durable, long lasting end product.

Issues that arise on the project are resolved in a timely manner, ensuring that all alternatives are reviewed. Thus choosing the best solution that resolves the issue, that is cost effective and results in a quality product.

Gustafson's has created a company that is greatly respected in the industry. They demonstrate daily their high ethics and professionalism.

Gustafson's is a quality, professional contractor who looks out for the best interest of its clients. The owner and staff go the extra mile to ensure budgets are met and that the end product meets the expectation of the client.

I would recommend Gustafson's Heavy Constructors for your project, no matter what the size.

Sincerely,

Rick J Bentley

BankWest

Heavy Constructors was the general contractor on 2 projects for BankWest in Rapid City. The first project was the construction of the new BankWest bank facility located in Tuscany Square at Third and Omaha in Rapid City. This Facility was completed in 2009 on schedule and on budget. Their management team from office staff, project manager to project foreman were all very organized and very attentive to BankWest staff and their subcontractors.

The second project for BankWest was an office remodel (3200 sq. ft.) in the Tuscany Square of Bank West Insurance and Call Center. This project was basically a design-build by Heavy Constructors, Inc. and was completed in less than 60 days from the demolition of existing interiors to completion of the new offices. Again their company from the project manager, project foreman, finish carpenters and subcontractors were all very organized on this project and completed the project at estimated costs.

I would not hesitate to work with Heavy Constructors, Inc. and their staff on future projects for BankWest Inc.

Dear David,

It has been over ten years now since you built our flagship dealership facility in Rapid City. While we were certainly impressed at the time, what really matters is how a project like that functions over the long run. Well I am pleased to say that we are as impressed and appreciative of the efforts you made for us now as we were back then.

Over the years, Gustafson Builders has remained our main partner in facility construction, renovation, and development. It is reassuring to be able to call your firm about any facility changes we need and know that there will be a consistently superior response to our requests. It has been very helpful to have a constant point of contact with quality professionals such as Brian Neumann. He has provided a "beyond expectations" level of attention to our needs over the years.

Our business, like many others, is constantly changing. At times these changes are unforeseen and need to happen quickly. Even with the sometimes "seemingly impossible" deadlines, we have asked of your firm, you have never let us down or failed to deliver on your commitments. That attention to timelines and quality is hard to find with business partners these days.

I would like to take this opportunity to again thank you for the outstanding efforts you and your people have made on our behalf and your contribution to success. As I have told you before we are always available to visit with others regarding our experiences.

Sincerely yours,

Al Rieman, President

Black Hills Harley-Davidson

On behalf of myself and my partners here at Black Hills Harley-Davidson, I wish to thank you and your firm for a job well done.

Since the time we decided to utilize Gustafson Builders we have never regretted our decision. We were able to open at 9:00am on the morning of the target date you set six months prior. The completion date never wavered even with the unknowns involved and the changes we requested mid-stream. The communication you coordinated between us, the architects, subcontractors, and yourself made the process smooth and effective. Your team was always willing to go the extra mile, listen to our ideas taking stock of the good ones and suffering through the not so good.

We have just finished our first "Sturgis Rally" in the new facility. During that time, we had close to 100,000 people pass through our store. With a shakedown like that, I can testify to the quality of the construction. The entire project from the building to the parking lot worked well and functioned superbly.

Again, I would like to thank you and your team for the excellent job you did building our project, on time and on budget. I would have no hesitation in recommending Gustafson Builders to anyone considering an important construction project. Please feel free to pass my name on to anyone you have that would like to visit further regarding our experience.

Sincerely yours,

Al Rieman

Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center, P.C.

I had the opportunity to work as the owner representative for the construction of the Black Hills Orthopedic and Spine Center in Rapid City this past year. During this twelve-month period, I worked closely with Dave Gustafson and his staff. We had over forty weekly construction meetings and many additional less formal gatherings to bring to a finish what I consider one of the most attractive and well-constructed offices in the region. The project was completed on time and on budget. Despite unusually bad weather during the fall months, quality was not compromised. In fact, it was refreshing to discover that they were as concerned about quality as I, the owner was. I found Gustafson's job superintendent and manager very responsive to any concerns or questions I had. They were sensitive to cost concerns and fair when it came to the inevitable change orders.

We at Black Hills Orthopedics are extremely satisfied with our new office and would recommend Gustafson Builders without reservation to anyone considering office construction. I would be willing to answer any further questions over the phone.

Sincerely,

Bryan D. Den Hartog, M.D.

CETEC Engineering Services, Inc.

Gustafson Builders dba Heavy Constructors, Inc. recently completed the Rapid Valley Sanitary District Water Treatment Plant project. The new treatment plant will produce 2.0 MGD of potable drinking water for over 10,000 residents of Rapid Valley. The 3.3 million dollar project is a tremendous asset to the Sanitary District and future customers.

On behalf of Rapid Valley Sanitary District and CETEC Engineering Services, Inc. I would like to thank Heavy Constructors and your subcontractor for constructing a first-class project. There were many companies and individuals that contributed to the success of the project, but I would like to specifically identify some of those parties that were vital to the success of this project.

  • Jim Synhorst, Jim Nelson, Bob Heibult - Heavy Constructors, Inc.
  • Dan Michael and Kevin Nichols - Action Mechanical, Inc.
  • Dan Vetsch and Rick Kosteleki - Muth Electric, Inc.
  • Jim Semmler - Semmler Manufacturing, Inc.

This Project involved many technical components that required close coordination with many subcontractors and suppliers. I appreciate the professionalism, quality work, and attention to detail provided. The management of schedule, materials, and subcontractors by these individuals resulted in an outstanding project.

Sincerely,
CETEC Engineering Services, Inc.

City of Rapid City

Thank you for the opportunity to share our success story with your firm with your potential clients. It was a great pleasure to work with Gustafson Builders on the 6th Street Parking Ramp in downtown Rapid City.

This was the first parking ramp constructed in our community so the City Council wanted the project completed professionally, on time and within budget. With the assistance of Gustafson Builders, we were able to make this happen. I found you and your employees to be most accommodating throughout the project making adjustments when and where necessary to complete the project. Our timeline was short (May 1 to November 25) to construct a two level, 323 space parking ramp. We had contaminated soils which needed to be removed and replaced with engineer fill; coordination with the City's precast contractor was exemplary, and the substantial completion was right on target.

The city gets many compliments about the parking structure and it is a real asset to our downtown area. Your firm does many outstanding projects in our community and it was a pleasure working with you and your firm.

Yours truly,

Bonnie J. Hughes

Country Inn & Suites

This letter is in reference to the Country Inn & Suites project. When this project was started, we had a very tight schedule to meet. The job started in December of 1998 and we were open in July of 1999.

I cannot say enough about how the schedules were met ahead of time or on time; and in spite of the tight time frame, we still received excellent quality (just come and see for yourself). Safety was a top priority. I am sure their record will show on incidents.

The project was in the range of 3.5 million, constructed of all steel and masonry with strict fire and building codes to follow. They conducted construction meetings on a weekly basis which was very beneficial to all of the contractors involved.

A big thanks to Bob Brandt, Peter Neumann, Dave Gustafson and all those involved that I cannot possibly name.

Sincerely,

Tom Bradsky

Dacotah Bank

Dacotah Bank has just completed a building project in Rapid City, SD that was built by Gustafson Builders. The project was a very extensive project both in scope and design. Gustafson Builders did a very good job of supervising the job.

The job superintendent did a great job of keeping track of the subcontractors and also watching out for the best interests if Dacotah Bank. He was very thorough in keeping us abreast of any problems that may occur with enough lead time so they could be addressed and a solution found.

The project manager handled all of the paperwork in a timely manner. He was accessible to me whenever I had questions and received timely answers.

I would not hesitate to use or recommend Gustafson Builders for future projects. I truly believe that they cared as much as I do how this project turned out.

Sincerely,

Richard Rylance

We have had the privilege of working with Gustafson Builders on two major building projects. Not only was their bid competitive, but they also came in under budget for both projects. We can't say enough good things about the working relationship we had with Peter Neumann and the team of people he put together. They are professional, personable, honest and dependable long after the job is completed. We can, without any hesitation, highly recommend them for their workmanship and quality customer care. We always felt we were in good hands with Peter.

If you need further information, don't hesitate to contact us.

Douglas School District 51-1

I would like to take this opportunity to give the highest of recommendations to Gustafson Builders with respect to our recently completed Music Area and Office Addition of Douglas High School. Doug Jaehn was the project manager and Terry Monson supervised all of the construction. Both of these gentlemen were terrific in all aspects of the construction process. Planning, communication, foresight, safety, and finished product were very well handled from start to finish.

Together with TSP, they were able to complete a project that added on to the main entrance of our high school. The project began in April 2003 and finished on time and on budget in November 2003. School was never canceled or interrupted throughout this project.

Sincerely,

I want you to know that your team at Gustafson Builders is Lynn's company of choice for our construction needs. Our relationship with Gustafson Builders is now over 25 years and we look forward to projects yet to come.

Millstone Family Restaurants

Gustafson Builders have been working for my company for approximately 20 years. During this time, they have built 3 new buildings and completely renovated another. At present, Gustafson Builders are building a new Culver's Frozen Custard at Rushmore Crossing in Rapid City. Gustafson Builders are very cost conscience and complete projects in an expedient matter. Another very important area is follow up and warranty work. They back up their work.

We have had the privilege of working with Gustafson Builders from Rapid City, SD for the past 21 years and have thoroughly enjoyed our relationship. We have been on many design-build projects with them and have found the projects to be very successful. Gustafson Builders does an excellent job as the construction manager of keeping jobs on schedule by having very detailed weekly coordination meetings.

We also appreciate the fact that they have an excellent safety program and require the subcontractors to do the same. We'd highly recommend Gustafson Builders for any design-build project that may come up.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me.

Pizza Ranch

We write this letter to recommend Gustafson Builders as a General Contractor. We had the pleasure of working with them during the spring of 2010. We recommend them highly without reservation.

Gustafson works with Pride, Care, and Integrity. Their whole staff prides themselves in professionalism. If we had a question or comment our construction manager was immediately available to ease our minds. They were timely and efficient in everything they did for us.

They worked hard to complete our project on time. In fact, we broke ground in April 2010 which was a very wet month. During the dirt work phase, they lost 3 weeks due to the ground being too wet to dig the footings of the building. Gustafson did what they could around the rain/snow and kept our project moving. We gave them 18 weeks to get the project done so we could open in August. Losing those 3 weeks we were worried it would not be possible. Gustafson Builders made up the time and we were open on our expected day. They did this by hard work and keeping our expectations in mind.

They worked hand in hand with our Corporate Construction department and with our architect to make sure the project was built to our expectations. They had control of our subcontractors and managed the project as a whole. We could not be happier with the job they did.

We are in the process of planning to build another Pizza Ranch and without a doubt, we will be using Gustafson Builders!

PrairieWave Communications

I would highly recommend Gustafson Builders for anyone planning a building construction project. Gustafson Builders has been very responsive to all of our needs over the past eight years, and always stand behind the work they do. We have used them for a variety of projects form building a multi-level office building to the most recent project of a 10,200 square foot design/build steel frame warehouse. Our warehouse project was on a very tight timeframe dealing with multiple budget years, and Gustafson Builders went well out of their way to accommodate our needs and complete the projects have displayed the utmost courtesy and professionalism, and have been very pleasant to work with. Gustafson Builders is a great company to work with, and are true professionals.

This letter is a recommendation for Gustafson Builders. We started demolition of our site on a design-build contract on March 6, 2000, and received our certificate of occupancy on August 2, 2000. This project was an attached brick building of over 11,000 square feet.

We have been very pleased with both the quality and service we have received from the entire staff at Gustafson Builders and would highly recommend them for any design-build job.

I am pleased to write this letter of reference for your organization. Your firm is currently building Fightertown's corporate aircraft hangar at the Rapid City Regional Airport. I am the owner's representative for Fightertown. We selected your firm after careful consideration of contractors in your area with similar construction experience.

Our selection process included inspection of previous projects and interviews with customers. Your firm was highly recommended for its ability to construct design-build aircraft hangers on budget and on time. Our experience has been consistent with these recommendations. Your firm has provided invaluable assistance in the conceptual planning, design, approval, and construction of Fightertown's facility.

A critical part of the success of any project includes communication between the contractor and the customer. We would like to compliment your staff for its attention to detail, quality control and communication with Fightertown. We look forward to the successful completion of our facility and working again with you in the future.

Regards,

TSP Three, Inc.

Over the period of the last three years, TSP Three, Inc. has had the opportunity to work with Gustafson Builders of Rapid City on a number of projects. The first occasion was on the $11,500,000 Journey Museum in Rapid City, which they delivered in an astonishing 13 months. Currently, we are working with them as the General Contractor on a new $2,400,000 facility for Zion Lutheran Church & School and an addition onto the existing Main Post Office in Rapid City, with construction costs of $3,500,000. The Post Office project is a very complex addition and renovation project since the facility cannot have any disruption to their ability to provide service to the public. We have also begun work with Gustafson Builders as the Construction Manager on additions to two facilities for the Meade School District (Sturgis), valued at $6,000,000 - $7,000,000.

In all occasions that TSP has worked with Gustafson Builders, we have found them to be an outstanding member of the project team. They work with the Owner and the Architect to ensure that the project remains on schedule and within budget. When problems arise, they are exceptional at offering solutions that do not impact the design or cost of the project. Their reputation with Owners, Architects and Subcontractors are superior. They rise to the challenge on tougher, complicated projects. I would highly recommend them for any type of construction project, new or renovation. I look forward to the next time that TSP and Gustafson Builders have the opportunity to team up on a project.

Westjet Air Central, Inc.

It is indeed rare that I am found to be at a loss for words, but the superlative job Gustafson Builders did on the construction of our new hangar building as me speechless. To bring a project of that size in ahead of time and on budget is magnificent. The aircraft arrived this morning and all i heard were exclamations such as, "how did you do this?" My reply is that it was done by a great contractor and a lot of hard work.

Doug Jaehn and Terry Monson were simply a joy to work with. If there was an issue which had to be dealt with, the response was, "We will take care of it." And they did just that. Your crew put in a lot of tough hours beginning very early in the morning. Installing a metal roof in the hot sun is not a great deal of fun, but they got the job done and done very well.

I am extremely grateful. Our customer was able to move his aircraft in on time which made us and him extremely pleased as we were able to fulfill a commitment at the project would be completed. Thank you ever so much.

Sincerely,

Donald H. Rydstrom
