Heavy Constructors’ Below Zero program is focused on achieving zero environmental, health and safety incidents. It also promotes performance that minimizes health and safety risks to our clients, our employees, the public and the environment. The program involves heightened health and safety policies and many programs, including defensive driving courses, employee recognition, an improved reporting system and more.
Hard Hat Exchange
Heavy Constructors comprises the ranks of its work force with a color system of hard hats. All new employees, regardless of previous work experience, will be given a yellow hard hat for the first six months of employment. This allows the entire work force to recognize and help instruct these employees in work, communication, and safety skills unique to the Heavy Constructors work environment. Blue represents labor and skilled workers such as carpenters, operators, and concrete finishers. Red is for our highly skilled working foreman. Green is for our shop workers and equipment mechanics. White represents all superintendents and office personnel.
Through Heavy Constructors’ Stop Work program, employees have the authority to stop work activities that present danger to themselves, other employees or the public. Employees can do so without fear of reprimand or retaliation.
We believe that acts of leadership, safety and discipline should be accredited and awarded. Our foreman and superintendents have been provided with means to award on site safety acts as they occur. An award is also given to all employees that retained a clean safety record throughout the entire calendar year.
